Sexual Trauma Informed Coach Certification
IBOSP Certified Sexual Trauma Therapists are licensed, certified, or registered mental health professionals who provide psychotherapy for presenting issues related to sex and sexuality. IBOSP Certified Sexual Trauma Therapists have specific, comprehensive training in sexual trauma, human sexuality and sex therapy.
Who seeks Sexual Trauma Informed Coach Certification?
Mental healthcare workers, educators, counselors, clergy, coaches, consultants, or healthcare professionals who work with people who have experienced sexual trauma but do not work in a state licensed or board licensed position. Certified Sexual Trauma Coaches take a trauma-informed approach that promotes a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing. Certified Sexual Trauma Coaches focus on helping people rebuild healthy relationships and discover (or re-discover) their sexual selves.

What are the basic eligibility requirements?
- A current IBOSP membership in good standing
- A minimum of an Associate’s degree
- A minimum of 50 hours of experience working with individuals who have a history of sexual trauma
- Documentation of 50 hours of trauma and sexual trauma education. Education should include topics such as:
- Knowledge of trauma informed practices, models and theories
- Knowledge of core human sexuality education (sexual development across life span, reproductive anatomy and physiology, theories of human sexuality)
- Cultural competency and diversity (knowledge of sexual minorities, diverse sexual expression, sociocultural factors that may influence sexuality
- Ethics and professionalism
- A current IBOSP membership in good standing
- A minimum of 50 hours of direct coaching experience working with individuals with a history of sexual trauma.
- Have two satisfactory colleague references completed by a licensed mental health, medical, or sexuality professional or IBOSP member.
- Adherence to the IBOSP Code of Ethics.
